Tomato-Onion Chutney Recipe:

Every South Indian households would have prepared this for their breakfast besides the popular south Indian coconut chutney, I must guarantee. while each have their own variation, I have given my own recipe below. It tastes good with Wheat and Ragi dosa.

tomato onion chutney

Ingredients:

2 medium sized Tomato(cut into big pieces)
1 1/2 medium sized Onion(cut into big pieces)
4-5 green chillies
1 stalk of curry leaves
salt to taste

For Tempering:
1/2 tsp mustard
1 red chilly , few curry leaves (optional)

Method:

1. Heat 2 tbl spn oil in a pan. Add onion, green chillies and curry leaves and saute it for 1-2 mins( onion shouldn’t be cooked and it has to be semi raw). Now add the tomatoes and saute for a minute. Switch off the stove and let it cool.

2. Grind the sauted mixture to a thick chutney consistency by adding very little water. Keep aside.

3. Heat 2 tbl spn oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. As the mustard seeds splutter, add red chillies and curry leaves(keep in low flame while adding curry leaves). Switch of the stove and pour this tempering over the grounded chutney

4. Serve with idli or dosa
