Onion Chutney – A Quick Make!

Onion Chutney Recipe: I simply love making chutneys. They are easy to make and save lot of my time especially in the hectic morning schedule. I keep experimenting with the ingredients and there are times when certain combinations have made me go mad. I liked the taste of onion chutney that I made this week as a side for idlies and thought its a must share for viewers.

Ingredients:
1 big onion (cut into large pieces)
3 red chillies
4-5 Garlic pods
1/2 tsp cummin seeds
1 inch tamarind
1 sprig of curry leaves
3 tblspn grated coconut
1/2 tspn mustard seeds
Salt o taste

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add cummin seeds, red chillies, curry leaves and then the onions. Sauté for two minutes and switch off the stove. Let the ingredients cool off.
  2. Transfer the ingredients to the mixer jar. Then add tamarind, coconut, garlic, salt and blend everything together to chutney consistency by adding very little water. Transfer the chutney to a bowl and keep aside.
  3. Now heat 1 tblspn oil in a pan. Add the mustards to splutter. Add this tempering over the chutney and serve hot with idli and dosa.
